Stuff you need to know!

June 1, 2008. Due to a low number of participants registering for the Black Warrior Triathlon, the event has been canceled. The registration fees for the nine people who registered will be returned.

What are Engines of Change?

To Toyota, they are hardworking, highly motivated individuals, like you, that are out there every day logging countless miles and dedicating hours to the love of sport. Sport has changed their lives and, in return, they give back hours of support.

Live It, Tell It, Win It!

On August 15th, Toyota launched the Engines of Change Power of Sport Contest…Live It, Tell It, Win It! as a way to honor the committed members of the sport community. The contest invites entrants to tell Toyota how sport has changed their life and how they give back to their communities.

The Grand Prize Winner will receive their choice of the following Toyota Engines of Change experiences:

April 1, 2007. Please join me in congratulating Justin Ladner on his OUTSTANDING performance this past weekend at the Ford Ironman 70.3 California in Oceanside!!!!

Justin's time for the Half Ironman was an ASTOUNDING 4:37:23. Justin's AWESOME performance (he placed 97th overall) in the Half Ironman this weekend has secured him a place in the Ford Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Clerewater, Florida !!!

In addition, Justin will be participating in his first FULL IRONMAN this May in Brazil!

Please join me again in congratulating Justin and let's let him know that we are all rooting for him back home in Tuscaloosa as he travels across the world this summer!!

March 29, 2007. Our next Tri Club meeting will be next Thursday, April 5th at Southern Sole. Shawn will give us that running clinic that we didn't get to in February. The format will be informal, so come with LOTS of questions! The running clinic will start at 7:00.

If there is any official tri business that needs to be discussed, please feel free to come at 6:30 to discuss it......but lets try to be done with that and start the running clinic at 7:00! Any additional business can be discussed after the running clinic.

Also, i know many people are being their triathlon season this weekend. Good luck to everyone.

March 24, 2007. The USA Triathlon Collegiate National Champonships are coming to town in just over a month. We you need your assistance with this event. To volunteer, please visit the following web site: http://team-magic.rd20.com/Volunteers/RegistertoHelp/tabid/144/Default.aspx Follow the steps to volunteer for the USAT Collegiate Event. Volunteers are needed on Thursday, April 19th, Friday, April 20th and Saturday, April 21st. All volunteers will receive t-shirts and the thanks of all the competitors. It wil also be a great way to see and exciting competition.

January 22, 2007. We had our first meeting of the year and talked about goals for each area of the club and each member. Thanks to Lauren Skinner for organizing this meeting. We have also had our first two people register for our triathlon to be held on June 23, 2007. Thanks to Bryan Martin, we have sponsors for our club and our triathlon. Remember to pay your dues for 2007 and to register for the triathlon. Everything is looking up for another great year for T2 and its members. Now if the weather would just cooperate, we can train and get ready for the upcoming events. Upcoming events: T2 meeting and running workshop (2/1/07 - 7:00 - Southern Sole) and Camp Partlow Duathlon (3/10/07 - Listing is at TriFind.com and Registration is at Signmeup.com)

December 12, 2006. Congratulations to our New Officers: Brian Darr - President, Bill and Jennifer Berrell - Vice Presidnet, Amanda Beams - Secretary, Richard Carroll - Treasurer, and Board Members: Hannah Gerber, Doug Ray, Katey Holley, Ray and Laurie Hubbard, and Chip Magner. Also, thank you for the following people who have volunteered to serve as Committee Chairman: Richard Carroll - Liaison between local athletic clubs, Bill and Jennifer Berrell - Triathlon, Hannah Gerber - Juniors Programs, Lauren Skinner - Meetings, and Katey and Rusty Holley - Membership. We are still looking for a chairman of the sponsorships committee. If you would like to help with one of the committees, please contact the chairman.

December 4, 2006. Don't forget about the Christmas Party on December 7, 2006 at 7 PM at Brian Darr's House, 4049 Dalewood Street, Northport. Their will be a very short business meeting to elect officers for 2007, but the rest of the time will open. Our house is located in Huntington Place Subdivision. From the Northport Civic Center and City Hall, which is at the intersection of Highway 82 (McFarland Blvd) and Highway 43, go north on Highway 43 for about 5 miles. Once you get out of the construction zone, you will go over a small creek. Huntington Place is on your right. Take the second entrance into the subdivision (Brentwood Street). {If you get to McDonalds, Hardees and Winn Dixie, you have gone too far.} Take the first right on to Arlington Avenue. Follow this street for two block until it turns to the left and onto Dalewood Street. Our house is the fourth house on the right. Two maps are located on this web site. The first is a general map of Northport and the second is a map of Huntington Place.

Most all of the biggest events have been published. While many of these events are not yet on www.trifind.com, they are on the web sites of the event managers, www.tribluesky.com, www.team-magic.com, www.racedayevents.com, www.gamultisports.com, and www.raceonline.com. These events are compiled on our calendar, complete with details and links.

November 20, 2006. Did you know that you could recycle your empty GU wrappers? I just found that out. For every 50 wrappers, you receive 5 GU Energy Gels. If you send in 200, you also get "Sweet Swhag" - t-shirt and socks. www.gusports.com Stash Your Trash.

October 28, 2006. The Race Calendar has been updated to reflect the Druid City Bike Club's 2007 Calendar. They will basically have two events per month, plus group workouts during the week. Larry Pierson has asked for our assistance and participation at Hospice of West Alabama Fun Walk, Run and Bike Event on July 28, 2007. For those looking for some good running events, there are quite a few local event over the next month:

    • 10/28 Save the Face 5K Carrollton
    • 11/4 Jingle Bell 5K Northport
    • 11/5 Teach for America 5K Tuscaloosa
    • 11/11 Firehouse 15K Coker
    • 11/18 Turkey Trot 5K Tuscaloosa

    Larry Pieson of the Druid City Bike Club invites all triathletes to their Christmas Pary on December 14th at 6:00 PM at Mellow Mushroom. Entry to the event is merely joining the club for 2007. You can join upon entry to the event. Only $20 indvidual and $25 family for pizza and beverage and a band!

October 23, 2006. The final two monthly meeting of 2006 are now set. The November meeting will be at Northridge Fitness Center on November 2nd. The short business meeting will begin at 6:00 PM and will discuss officers for next year and our 2007 Triathlon. The Northridge staff will then discuss weight training and their facilities.

October 17, 2006. Here are two university sponsored road races:

Roll Tide Run 10K, October 22, Sunday, 4:00 PM. Registration 2:00 – 3:45 PM Registration fee $15.00. For further information, email: wesle008@bama.ua.edu

Phi Sigma Pi at the University of Alabama is hosting a 5K race to benefit Teach for America. Please inform your clubs about this event! The race is Sunday, November 5. It begins at 3:00pm, with registration starting at 2:00pm. If you are interested in more information or would like to register, please visit http://bama.ua.edu/~phisigpi/

October 16, 2006. There will be a special Southern Sole Ladies Night on November 8th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The event will have the following:

Brooks Representatives to help with sports bra fittings and tips for dressing in the cold weather.
FREE massage
Yoga by the Yoga Center
FREE gait analysis for shoe fitting
A certified dietician to provide information on proper nutrition for all types of running and walking
Free food and refreshments
The former UA track coach will be there giving tips on how to improve your running/ walking.

October 13, 2006. You can now pay your membership via Active.com. This is a convient method of paying with your credit card, but there is a slight processing fee that will be added. Please follow this link to register for 2007. If you become an Active.com Member, you save money with each event you register.
